Reunification Program

Reunification
Program

Research literature on the effects of divorce on children shows there is universal consensus that children who suffer the most are those who have been exposed to intense and chronic parental conflict. This can result in a child maintaining a highly distorted view of both parents. They can behave in an extremely negative, defiant, disobedient and hostile manner. No doubt, there is wisdom in the importance of addressing rather than ignoring the problem, hence the development of an innovative therapeutic supervision program.

The Parenting Enhancement Program (P.E.P) is designed to address the family dysfunction in order to alleviate the children’s obvious impairments, in addition to supporting interventions that are needed to improve the functioning of both parents.

Reunification Program (PEP)

P.E.P is offered to include time between the child/ren and parent supervised by highly skilled, trained and appropriately experienced personnel in the provision of such service. The primary purpose is to create opportunities for the child/ren to spend time with the rejected parent in a positive and predictable environment.

To commence in the program, families can be referred as a consequence of a Court Order, or a Consent Order, or by agreement between parties and/or their solicitors. The intake assessment process includes a series of interviews, that requires parents to attend for separate interviews, in order to address the intense emotions between parents. Interviews with the child/ren will occur on a separate day, with arrangements to provide feedback to the parents prior to conducting joint sessions for the child/ren with the rejected parent. The intake process will conclude with a clear direction for arrangements for the child/ren, and ongoing counselling appointments for the parents, as an extended period of assessment, to continue to identify clear and specific treatment goals to reunify the parent and child/ren and improve the parent child/ren relationship.

P.E.P has supported many families to move from high levels of conflict and post separation towards insightful, sensitive, child focused and competent arrangements. Numerous parents have felt rewarded by seeing their child/ren, young people and their families further enhance and re-build healthy and real relationships.
